Q:  To what extent has he influenced the media 
ecology programme?

A:  A great deal. Well, first of all I should tell you 
that he is directly, in a way, responsible for the 
media ecology programme because he and I had a 
conversation once and he said that he didn’t think 
he had the temperament or the desire to form a 
graduate programme with all of the bureaucratic 
elements that would entail, at the University of 
Toronto, but he thought I should do it. So he 
suggested that we try to develop a grad 
programme at NYU that would explore these 
probes, he even suggested the term media ecology.
